This part would his education and his interest in architecture from his early teens, his departure to Bombay and thence to England. This chapter would stop at his arrival in India.
Quest / Search for a local idiom
In this chapter His attempts to adapt the modern idiom, that was prevalent in the west, to the Indian context would be explored in great detail. This would explicitly discuss the problems and methods of building in India as well as the aspect of a valid regional architecture of the place. The projects covered in this chapter would be from the earlier part of his career.
Modern Architecture in the Indian Context.
This chapter would explore the larger projects such as the Market in Surat, the V. S. hospital the stadium etc as major contributions to the Contemporary Indian architectural scenario. These projects would be painted against a background of other contemporaries such as Doshi, Correa, Rewal, Kanvinde etc.
From a dwelling to a township
This chapter would explore in detail the strengths of his abundant ability in creating expressive residential spaces at the micro as well as the macro level. The chapter would cover the aspects of urbanity within the townships as well as the quality of spaces within the house, thus attempting to explore the gamut of the abilities of the architect.
From a sketch to an architectural form.
This chapter would broadly explore his other expressive abilities of sketching and painting. It would also be possible in this chapter to briefly talk about his mannerisms and other likes and dislikes, his attitude to present architecture etc..
Conclusions
A concluding note to the book. In this chapter a few thoughts or impressions from contemporaries - artists and architects, friends etc. can be included.
