Introduction
The formation of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) under the NCC Act, 1948 was a major milestone for the development of the student community. With its motto of " Unity and Discipline", the NCC has become instrumental in molding the character and imparting in our children a dynamic outlook during their school and college education.
Aims
The Corps has expanded its horizons and now aims at developing character qualities amongst cadets and making them into good leaders and useful citizens so that they can take their appropriate place in all walks of life in the service of the nation. The qualities of leadership, discipline, espirit-de-corps, courage and confidence with a secular outlook, which are the hallmarks of good and useful citizens, are inculcated in the cadets through a well conceived programme of institutional training combined with adventure sports and outdoor activities. The progress and quality of training is reviewed and changes incorporated to bring about improvements.
Strength
The NCC celebrated its 49th anniversary on November 23, 1997 and entered its "Golden Jubilee Year" that day.NCC is the largest student organisation in India. NCC's presence can be felt in most districts of the country. The total strength of NCC cadets now stands at approximately 11.6 lakhs. The wingwise distribution of the enrolled cadet strength is as follows:
- Army Wing - 8,92,911
- Air Wing - 65, 450
- Naval Wing - 65, 050
- Girl cadets(All Wings) - 1,39,957
Training Activities
Camp Training
For further development of leadership and citizenship NCC organises Camp. The various camps are
- Annual Training Camps
- National Integration Camps
- Nau Sainik Camp
- Centrally Organised Camps
Attachment Training
To motivate NCC Cadets to join the Armed Forces, the cadets are attached to various defence units. 9765 cadets were attached to Army, Navy and Air Force units for a period of 14 to 28 days.
Gliding & Flying
Gliding and Flying are popular activities of the NCC Air Wing. Gliding facilities are provided at 34 Air Sqns. Power flying is undertaken on Pushpak/Cessana aircrafts, etc at thirteen selected flying clubs. The NCC Air Sqns have carried out a total of 31,533 launches on glider and 859.21 hrs of power flying during the year. Microlight aircrafts are being inducted to enhance the overall aviation awareness of the Air Wing cadets.
Sea Training
NCC cadets of the Naval wing during their sea training and attachments with the Naval Units are imparted intensive training in Naval subjects like Navigation Communication, Gunnery, Seamanship, Damage control & ship safety, first aid and ships husbandry.
Sports and Games
Sports and games have been incorporated in the curriculum of NCC activities. The first ever NCC games were conducted at New Delhi from August 06 - 15, 1997. 1350 boys and girls cadets from all over the country participated in the National Independence Golden Jubilee Panel Corps Games. The Cadets competed in various athletic events, football and volleyball. The Prime Minister, Raksha Mantri, Rajya Raksha Mantri and the three Service Chiefs graced the events. The games provided an additional avenue for the youth to display their prowess in sports and games at the National level.
Adventure training
To quench the thirst for adventure of the cadets NCC gives adventure training in the form of Mountaineering, Trekking, Cycle and Motor Cycle Expedition, Para Sailing, Para Jump, Slithering, Scuba Diving and etc.

As part of a cadet's growing up process, the NCC takes up a large number of community development programmes. Some of them are listed below:

To look after the training, orientation and upgradation needs of the NCC, Officers Training School, Kamptee (OTS) and Women Officers Training School, Gwalior (WOTS) conduct courses of various types to meet the identified training requirement at different levels.

4(T N) Engr Coy. NCC, a technical unit is functioning in the college with a sanctioned strength of 150 boy cadets, 50 girl cadets and one officer. in addition to basic infantry and weapon training, cadets are being given in small arms firing, water supply, bridging, mine breaching, explosives, obstacles removal and etc, pertaining to the Corps of Engineers in the Indian Army. Cadets are also sent for state-level Annual training camps and all India level Army attachment camps. Apart from the regular training camps adventure training like cycling, trekking in hill areas is organised every year.
Hot News:
A trekking expedition on the Kodaikannal hills was organised on 13 th , 14 th and 15 th of March in which 50 cadets took part.
The `B` and `C` certificate exams were held on the 25 th of February and 25 th of March 1999 respectively.
Firing was held on 13 th of February 1999 in the Nagamalai Range.
Republic day celebrations were held on 26th January 1999. Principal Dr. P.Sabapathi hoisted the national flag and took the salute. I and II year cadets performed a continuity drill. The girl cadets gave a dance performance. NCC boy cadets gave a Karate demonstration. The programme ended with the national anthem.
II and III year cadets attended a 10 days Company Annual Training Camp in Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madrai.
The following cadets were attached with the Indian Army in MEG Bangalore from Sept 01 to Sept 15, 1998
