Getting Financial Aid



The big question is :" Will I get aid after going unfunded to my univ ? "

The answer is not an easy one.IF you are just trying your luck without any background on the aid scene in the
university you intend to join , then you are in for some trouble.

Hopefully you must have done your groundwork , ideally, from the time you shortlisted the university for applying
or atleast after getting an admit there.But therre are some who cannot do this for whatever reasons.This is quite a dangerous 
thing  to do.

Here at TAMU, there were 200 new Indian students in various depts.OF them 150 got aid.Well this doesnot say anything except
maybe the batch was smart and/or the aid scene in tamu is/was good for that year.

You must find out from students in the dept you join abt aid scene there.
You may contact Indian association for help.

Generally, there are some TA positions.You may have to give a test for this.
There are Ra positions which u may be eligible for , depending on your skills.

PRofs prefer to give Ra   after seeing the students performance.but it varies with
 the school/prof/dept.

there are other forms of aid outside the dept like web page management, programmer, tester , lab in charge.
etc.

Generally it helps to reach the school 2 weeks prior to start of classes to get aid./housing and to get accustomed 
to the school/climate/ etc.
