Sound sleepby Manpreet Singh
After the debacle of Dillagi, Vijayata Films’ (Dharmendra and Sunny Deol’s home production) next movie, Indian, is going to be released. But the music of the film fails to make any impact and with a few exceptions the album is a total let down. Even the opening track of the album Deewane is dull and repetitious. It sounds very monotonous - the kind of song, which you would listen to only once. It does not remain with you for long. Sung by Alka Yagnik and Shaan, its more of a chorus with the lyrical vacuum being filled by an upbeat, foot tapping musical score. Alka is used too frequently and heard too often, but Shaan sounds fresh in it. His voice sounds perfect for this song and he should have been used more frequently. Next song is Jaana Maine, sung by Abhijeet and Sadhana Sargam. It has a very melodious tune but it doesn’t have very catchy lyrics. Both Abhijeet and Sadhana Sargam have done their best, but the song fails to take their talent forth. Watan walon is a patriotic song to match the patriotic feel of the film. But it really doesn’t manage to strike a chord with the likes of Sandese Aate Hain (Border). The magical touch of Roop Kumar Rathod is also missing in it. His emotive tune does get across to the listener but the music tends to drag on a little too long for anyone to really catch on. Inspired by Anu Malik’s obsession with singing , Anand Raj Anand, the film’s music director has tried his luck here and has sung the number, Thaath Nawabi. which is a very ordinary song and his voice makes it even worse. For a Sunny Deol movie, it is a must to have at least one Punjabi track and this is no different. But unlike the soundtracks of his previous movies Yeh Pyar fails to impress the Punjabi lovers. It is very loud and jarring with lots of heavy beats, and very average lyrics. Even Sunidhi Chauhan and Richa Sharma’s voices don’t help the cacophony. Anand Bakshi’s lyrics shift from tolerable to redundant. The music of some songs are catchy but dull with little or no relief on the lyrical front. There is not even a single song in the album, which will urge you to buy the cassette. But, as is the case with most Sunny Deol movies, don’t let the music decide the fate of this film.
