[Back]   The Story (set in the late 1930's) Maria, a nun at the Abbey in Salzburg in Austria, gets a position as a governess for seven children. These are the seven von Trapp children and their father is the formidable and stern widower Captain von trapp. Over time, the children accept Maria as their own and have a lot of fun with her. Maria takes the children on trips, for picnics and teaches them music. The Captain starts liking Maria and they fall in love. Maria weds the Captain in a glittering ceremony in a church. However, facing German persecution as he is a Austrian nationalist, the Captain decides to flee Austria.
