Stay in the game-It's too soon
to quit
*********************************
As
the Olypics began with a fantastic display of modern techonological
marvels and the world's toughest men and women gather to win and become
winners, it's time we give a thought to our own lives. Here's what the
late Vince Lombardi put some of his philosophy concerning winning
on paper entitled, "The Habit of Winning."
Says Lombardi:
"Winning is not a somtime thing. You don't win
once-in-awhile. You don't do things right once-in-awhile. You do them
right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing."
"It is a reality of life that men are competitive
and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That's
why they are there-to compete. They know the rules and the objectives
when they get in the game. The objective is to win-fairly, squarely,
decently, by the rules-but to win."
Life is not a Spectator Sport
All too often life is approached as a spectator sport,
i.e.,football. There are eighty thousand people in the stands desperately
needing exercise, while there are twenty-two on the field badly in need
of rest!
The fact is that success in life or any worthwhile endeavor
is conditional. There are some prerequisites.
Webster defines prerequisite as:
"Something that is necessary to an end or to the
carrying out of a function."
Regardless of the problems, there are some conditions
that must be met to experience victory.
One famous football coach, Lou Holtz said that, to him,
the word win means: What's Important Now."
It is important to let the past be past at last. You can
not unscramble the eggs! It is useless to look back- unless that is
the direction you plan to go. What lies behind or ahead is not nearly
as important as what lies within.
From within, decide to win!
Success in life begins with your decision to succeed.
The One who created you and me does not have the words lose, hopeless,no
way out, incurable or beyond repair in His vocabulary. As human beings,
we have been given a will. We have the right to make decisions.
Whose decision is it to achieve? Yours.
Whose decision is it to fail? Yours.
Wholeness, fulfillment, purpose, and success hinge on
your decision.
Steven Brown, president of the Fortune Group, says, "Essentially
there are two actions in life: Performance and excuses.
Make a decision as to which you will accept from yourself."
It is time to take responsibility for your choices and
actions.
As Zig Ziglar says, "You do not 'pay the price' for
suuccess, you 'enjoy the price.'"
Decide to move ahead while others ask for answers.
Look beyond the risks, obstacles, and hardships. You can
live a life that counts. You can be the person you want to be.
Say to yourself: " This is the beginning of
a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it-
or use it for good, but what I do today is important, because I am exchanging
a day of my life for it!
"When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever,
leaving in its place something that I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain, and not loss; good, and not evil;
success, and not failure; in order that I shall not regret the price
that I have paid for it." Remember failure is not final! It is
always too soon to quit. Be encouraged.
