FUKUSHIMA
Our friend Abe-San is from Fukushima prefecture and he decided to take us around the popular onsen spots in the remote areas that are often called back country of Japan. Onsen means natural hot spring bath. This has been popular for centuries - thanks to the abundance of steaming geysers present in volcanic mountains of Japan. These springs have a whole culture and life-style built around them. We drove in and around the volcanic
mountains and I was very fascinated by the craters and solidified layers of
lava. We also climbed up a conical peak of Mount Azuma. Another mountain we went to -Bandai-San had erupted last in 1888. You can still see the steaming vents called geysers which are used for onsens we spent two nights in two different and beautiful onsens where people are not used to seeing foreigners.
