Microscopy On Web

Guide to Microscopy and Microanalysis on the Internet
This site from MicroWorld Resources is (in their own words): "An annotated listing of the best WWW sites in electron, light, confocal, laser, scanning probe, nuclear magnetic, and x-ray microscopy, image analysis, non destructive evaluation, spectroscopy, and surface science."
WWW Virtual Library: Microscopy
Probably one of the most exhaustive collections of microscopy links on the WWW. (Scott D. Russell, University of Oklahoma)
Microscopy Vendors Database

sci.techniques.microscopy
An internet newsgroup specifically for discussion related to microscopic techniques.
Advanced Microscopy for the Teaching Laboratory
"This site provides methods and procedures for using fluorescence and video microscopy in undergraduate cell biology laboratories. A gallery of images prepared by students in our cell biology course is included." The site's author is Douglas Kline, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Kent State University.
CELLS alive!
An award winning site with a variety of images and animations using light and electron microscopy.
The Photonics Dictionary

Children's Books on Microscopy: a bibliography
This extensive bibliography (MSA's Project MICRO) was put together by Caroline Schooley, Educational Outreach Coordinator, Microscopy Society of America. A companion site, called Monthly Microscopy Explorations, is at the Minnesota Microscopy Society's WWW site.
Computer Network Laboratory for Microscopy Education
This education and outreach project comes from the Materials Sciences and Engineering department of the University of Arizona. This site describes their activities and includes a collection of some of their more interesting images (more materials sciences oriented).
Dennis Kunkel's Microscopy
Educational site with beautiful colorized photos of insects taken with a Scanning Electron Microscope.  Along a similar line, visit the home of MicroAngela (aka Tina Carvalho).

History of the Light Microscope

A Light Microscopy Tutorial
Image Processing for Teaching

Microscope Links

The NANO-World Image Gallery
This award winning site (University of Queensland, Australia) has a huge collection of images taken with transmission or scanning electron microscopes. It is also the home of the Virtual Electron Microscope.

Microscopy Primer: Introduction to Microscopy

University of Washington's "Microscopes, Cells, DNA and You"
This site is "a hands-on, inquiry science resource for learning about and doing science, and teaching optics, cells, and DNA". Includes sample lesson plans and a bibliography.
The Visible Embryo
This award winning WWW site uses several kinds of microscopy and diagrams to show the progress of an embryo from fertilization to the folding of the embryo after implantation. The Visible Embryo is designed and maintained by Carmen Arbona and hosted by the University of California San Francisco. Further information on this topic can be found at a list of developmental biology links provided by Swathmore College.
