Introduction

The barriers across the world are gradually diminishing under the changed economic and technological scenario. This is posing newer challenges to manage the emerging situations, and thus, requiring newer paradigm to match with the reality more effectively. The wind of liberalization and globalization is creating a fast changing business scenario. This is leading to the emergence of some critical managerial issues and the development of many new management approaches. The emerging management issues signify change, complexity, and multiplicity demanding high degree of responsiveness, adaptiveness, and openness in management.

A radical change is taking place in management thought shattering the older paradigms leading to evolution of a new management  paradigm. Such a sudden change in the management thinking is creating a new management jungle. Though apparently all the emerging approaches are different, the bottom line is flexibility. All these approaches are creating flexibility in the organization to meet the new challenges which are posed by a liberalized business environment, which itself connotes flexibility.

In order to enrich the management paradigm to meet the current reality and the challenges of the new millennium a pressing need was felt by various management professionals to have a common forum for interactive participation and learning. This professional body has been created to meet such a challenge, and it is hoped that with the active participation of individual as well as corporate members it will be possible to make significant contributions to the world of knowledge and practice of management globally.

Objectives
• To promote the paradigm of flexible systems management globally, so as to bring in more openness and adaptiveness in the management of industrial, business and governmental activities making them high performing, innovative, and enlightened leading to the evolution of a management paradigm that can support truly global and flexible systems.
• To take a global view of the management and explore different types of flexibilities needed to be created for global management.
• To evolve a management paradigm that nurtures human values and ethos, and is equipped to handle issues of chaos and conflict.
• To organise lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, competitions and Management Development Programmes relating to the objectives of the Institute.
• To publish periodicals, books, journals and magazines; and develop software and educational programmes, video films and training packages relating to the objectives of the Institute.
• To offer flexible class room/distance learning programmes in various aspects of management that suit the requirement of various levels of professionals to learn Flexible Systems Management at their own pace.
• To take up research projects at national and international level in the field of Flexible Systems Management and allied areas generating empirical evidence of its utility, and helping to evolve the paradigm further in view of comparative experiences across the globe.
• To promote professional exchange of information, experience, and advanced training within and among various countries across the globe.
• To give awards, scholarships, fellowships, and grants to individuals/teams of professionals and organisations in regard to specific projects in various spheres of management exploring flexibility considerations.
• To promote any other activity incidental to the above objects (but not involving in any activity for profit) as the Governing Council may from time to time determine.

The Institute comprises of various schools, which are autonomous bodies, dealing with contemporary areas at the cutting edge contributing to the flexible systems management paradigm. At any point of time each member can opt for an association with any two of the following schools in the respective thrust areas:

• School of Technology and Innovation Management
• School of Quality, Productivity and Wastivity Management
• School of Environment Management
• School of Information Technology and Knowledge Management
• School of E-Commerce and E-Governance
• School of Human Values and Management Ethos
• School of Learning Organization and Strategic Transformation

The membership fees for different types of members, unless changed/revised by the Governing Council from time to time, will be as given under:

Annual Rs 1,000.00 USD 50.00

Life Rs 10,000.00 USD 500.00

Corporate (a) for corporate bodies having turnover less than Rs 20 Crore, and for non-business/non-profit making organizations/institutions:

Rs 50,000.00 USD 5,000.00

(b) for corporate bodies having turnover more than Rs 20 Crore:

Rs 1,00,000.00 USD 5,000.00

Eligibility

1. The qualifications/conditions for Annual and Life Membership are:

(a) Minimum Graduation, (b) Five years work experience, (c) Interest towards flexibility, and (d) Acceptance/approval of membership by the Governing Council.

The qualifications/conditions for Student Membership are:

(a) Minimum Graduation, (b) Interest towards flexibility, and (c) Acceptance/approval of membership by the Governing Council

2. Corporate Members shall be such companies, bodies, corporate associations, institutions, societies or other organisations which have contributed to the Institute the corporate membership fee and have been admitted by the Governing Council to be corporate members of the Institute.

• All life and corporate members, and other individual members after six months of having been admitted as members, shall be entitled to attend and vote at all General Body meetings and Extra-ordinary General Body Meetings of the Institute and shall be entitled to receive copies of the reports of the Institute.
• All members shall be entitled to receive the News Letter or any other publication either free of cost or at concessional rates as decided by the Governing Council from time to time.
• Members shall be entitled to a discount in all the conferences/seminars/symposia of the Institute as decided by the Governing Council from time to time.

• Each member organisation will get two free memberships of the Institute for which, they may nominate their organisation-persons. They will be like any other ordinary member and will have one vote right, each, in the General Body and can also seek election to the Governing Council, as per the rules of the Institute. The name of such member(s) can be changed only once in three years, unless such requests are approved by the Governing Council.
• Member organizations will be extended discount in the seminars, workshops and training programs organized by the Institute.
• Member organizations will receive three copies of the News Letter free of any charges.
• The summary of the research studies done by the Institute will be made available to the member organisations, on request, free of any charges. However, the full reports of such studies will be made available at a discounted price.
• Member organisations will be able to avail seats, reserved for them, in the Institute’s professional schools.
• The Institute will undertake management research and consultancy for its member organisations at special discounted rates, to be decided by the Governing Council.
• The Institute will give preference to its member organisations in conducting in-house training programmes specially designed to meet the particular requirements of the member organisations.
• The Institute will provide active help and assistance to its member organistions in their strategic transformation at special rates.
