The administration of the temple is entrusted to Guruvayoor devaswom managing committee. The Zamorin, Mallisseri Namboodiri and the Temple Tanthri are permanent members of the committee. The other membrs are nominated by the governmnet of Kerala. The members should take an oath before joining the office that they preach Hindu relegion, beleive in temple worship, and do not believe in the practice of untouchability. The Administrator, an officer appointed by the Government, manages the day to day administration.

ACTIVITIES OF DEVASWOM

Guruvayoor devaswom undertakes a lot of public welfar schemes like education, culture, medical aid etc.

Educational - The Sree Krishna College was started by Guruvayoor devaswom in 1964. An High school, an HSS and a nursery school is also run by the devaswom. Kshetrakala Nilayam an institute to impart training in Krishnanattam and Vadyakala Vidyalayam a school for teaching panchavadyam, chenda, kombu, etc. are also run by the devaswom.

The Institute of Mural painting, another venture by devswom conducts a five year diploma course in mural painting.

Social - There is a 75 bedded hospital with facilities like X Ray, ECG, etc. under the mangement of Guruvayoor devaswom which provides free treatment to all.

A musuem in the Devaswom Office Annexe, exhibits rare articles received as offerings from devotees. It is open from 8 am to 8 pm on all days except Tuesdays. Admission is free.

The elephants owned by the devaswom (more than 40) are looked after at Punnathur Kotta at 3 kms away from the temple. It attracts a lot of devotees and tourists from all over the world. Visiting time from 9 am to 5 pm.

The cows received as offerings are taken care of in a 25 acre plot known as Gokulam at Vrindavan Estate at Malapuram Dist.

Guruvayoor devaswom also runs a library and reading room. Besides a good collection of books on relegion, culture and art, there are hundreds of palm-leaf manuscripts in the library. Library is open during 8am to 8pm.

Publications - Devaswom publishes books on relegion, temple activities and an almanac. A monthly journal Bhaktapriya is also published by devaswom. It runs a book stall near the East Nada.

Endowments - In order to encourage temple arts, a award by name Gruvayoorappan sammanam is constituted by the devaswom. Every year awards of gold medel and Rupees 5000/- is given to artists making outstanding contribution is the field of temple arts.
