Dear Architect.

Welcome to the Homepage of the Navi Mumbai Centre of the Indian Institute of Architects!

After a dormancy of nearly six years, we are literally – Online. We hope to reach out to you through these web pages and create a truly interactive and participatory forum. If you are an architect practising, teaching or residing in Navi Mumbai, or are a student of architecture, this is where we can all connect and create a dialogue to define the future of the environment in and around Navi Mumbai. Keep a tab on these pages for updates and announcements about activities to be conducted by the IIANMC.

Navi Mumbai Centre, an update

An ad-hoc meeting was held on 17th March 1999 where nominations for the Executive Committee were tentatively suggested. Nomination forms were also mailed to all the member architects by Ar. Sabu Francis, Acting Secretary IIANMC, so as to enable all members interested to come forward and contest the elections according to the regulations specified by the Indian Institute of Architects. After due scrutiny and verification an Executive Committee of four members was elected unopposed.

The First General Body meeting was held on 17th April 1999, at Pillais’ College of Architecture, New Panvel wherein an elected new Executive Committee was installed. Present and overseeing the meeting and installation were Ar. D. M. Gupte, Member Executive Committee, IIA Maharashtra Chapter, and Liaison person for the Navi Mumbai Centre. Also present were Ar. Sunil Pathak, Member Executive Committee, IIA Maharashtra Chapter, Ar. Dilip Deshmukh, and Ar. Rajiv Taishete, Chairman and Treasurer of IIA Kalyan Centre, and Ar. V.V. Modak, Member Executive Committee, IIA Thane Centre.

Aims and Objectives

All the activities of the Navi Mumbai Centre of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIANMC) shall be directed towards the achievement of the following aims:

 To protect, promote and propagate the professional interests of architects practising, teaching or residing in Navi Mumbai.

 To improve the quality of the architectural profession in Navi Mumbai by enhancing the intellectual, cultural and social worth of its members.

 To promote fairness and equity in architectural professional practice relevant for all architectural projects being carried out in Navi Mumbai.

 To help architects demonstrate their responsibility towards their clientele by providing their best service, and in turn get the best they deserve from their clients.

 To preserve and project the environment of Navi Mumbai and responsibly chart out its future growth for the benefit of its children and their children.

Short Statement of Aims:

‘Clean Practice, Good Architecture, Prosperity’.

The Above aims are not intended to supersede in any way the aims and objectives of the Indian Institute of Architects, but rather to complement it. The aims stated might also be considered a draft copy, and suggestions in this regard are invited and welcomed.

The Road Ahead

All the activities of the IIANMC shall be directed towards the achievement of the following objectives to satisfy the aims stated above:

Equity and Fairness in Architectural Practice

Architects of Navi Mumbai must sit together under the banner of IIANMC and set down a statement of a common code of conduct to promote fairness in the architectural profession. This, to protect the interests of the individual architect and focus itself on giving the best to the clients, must be applicable for all projects in Navi Mumbai, irrespective of where the architect in question comes from.

The objectives stated might also be considered a draft, and suggestions in this regard are invited and welcomed.

Ar. Mustansir is the Principal of Pillais’ College of Architecture, New Panvel.

Treasurer

Ar. Hiten Sethi, AIIA

Ar. Hiten Sethi is a partner in the firm Shah Sethi and Associates, with offices in Vashi, Navi Mumbai and New Delhi. Ar. Sethi was formerly the youngest elected Executive Committee member of the IIA Brihan Mumbai Centre in 94-96.

Ar. K. R. Suresh is a partner in the firm M/s. Studio Arch, with offices in Vashi, Navi Mumbai. He is a faculty of Bharti Vidyapeeth College of Architecture, Belapur.

Ar. Pranilraj Jadhav is a partner in the firm S.P.A.S., with offices in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
