- Carriage POH Shop
Periodic overhauling
of various types of coaching stock viz. AC/Non-AC, EMU Motor/Trailer coaches
and conversion of Coaches for special purposes are carried out in this shop.
- Wagon POH Shop
It undertakes POH and nominated
repairs of all types of vacuum brake/air brake 4Wheeler/ 8Wheeler wagons and
conversion of wagons for special purposes.
Diesel Loco POH Shop
The POH of Diesel Locomotives of South Eastern,
North Eastern and Northeast Frontier Railways and Public Sector Undertakings
are carried out in this shop. This also undertakes re-winding of
Traction Generator and Traction Motors of WDM2 Locomotives and does
manufacture of coils
for Traction Machines.

- Repairs of 10,000 Wheel-Sets per year.
- Forging of 540
MT per year. Repairs of 13000 Laminated Bearing Springs per
year.
- Machining and
finishing of components.
- Plate work and fabrication.
- Electric Rolling Stock POH

and EMU Motor coaches.

- Electric supply to Workshop and Division
through 33/11 KV receiving Sub-Station.
- Standby Electric supply through 4 Diesel
Generating sets of 1750 KW each.
- Maintenance of cranes, traversers and
electrical components of various machines and plants of the entire Workshop.
- Repairs and re-winding of all distribution
transformers, pumps, industrial motors, DG sets, alternators and welding
plants of S.E. Rly.
- POH of Electrical portion of coaches.
Machinary & Plants
- Maintenance of approximately
1200 Machines & Plants.
- POH of Rail Cranes @ 1.17 per
month.
- POH of all Weighbridges of SE,
SEC and ECo. Railway.
Chemist & Metallurgical Lab
- Quality control on the
items manufactured in the Workshops.
- Qualitative inspection of
products and raw materials purchased from outside.
- Physical and
Metallurgical analysis of defective components.
- Chemical analysis of
ferrous and non-ferrous material, coke, clay, acid, foundry flux, etc.
- Testing of paints,
enamels, varnishes, thinner, etc.
- Testing of Oil, grease,
polymer, rubber, plastic, and other metallic compounds.
- 100% Ultrasonic testing
of Axles during POH
- Testing of bond strength
of suspension bearings.
- Quality checks on raw
materials and products of Foundry.
Computer Centre

Responsibility of complete computerization of Kharagpur
Workshop.

Salary and Incentive Bills of 12305 employees of the Workshop
are already being prepared on Computer.

Fibre Optic Cable has been laid. Connectivity to RAILNET is
under progress.

78 dumb terminals have been provided at major activities centre
across the Workshop using Serial Cable networking to provide
on-line data entry from the shop floors to the main server
located at Computer Centre.

WISE (Workshop Information SystEm) package for coaching stock
and M&P modules have been installed.

WISE package for Diesel has been customized & implemented and
on-line data entry started from Feb-2006.
