Diagnostic Ultrasound
The goal in disease diagnostics is to make a complete diagnosis with fewest diagnostic procedures. A diagnostic procedure such as ultrasound must be properly integrated with other diagnostic modalities. Imaging ultrasound eliminates the need for further diagnostic procedures in some cases, and in other cases adds information. Knowledge of ultrasonic limitations and diagnostic potential is needed to integrate ultrasound imaging with other modalities.
The primary indications for an ultrasound examination is need to obtain more diagnostic information about the internal parenchymal pattern of an abdominal organ or other soft tissue structure that has an abnormal size, shape or function.
