What would you call a man who can sing and dance, act and mimic, write and also compose, make you laugh and cry all at one time ? How do you define a person who lived by defying norms ?How do you quantify a genius whose talent is immeasurable ? Multi-faceted,versatile,eccentric,sensitive,prankster.There's only one such man in the Indian Filmdom who can be called a complete artiste, a performer - Kishore Kumar

Born on August 4,1929,in Khandwa,Madhya Pradesh,Abhas Kumar Ganguly (Kishore's real name) , nurtured dreams of becoming a singer and following footsteps of his idol Shri.K.L.Saigal , to buy whose records , he saved his pocket money. He came to Bombay to visit his elder brother Ashok Kumar , in hope of being introduced to K.L.Saigal. But he was forced into acting and hated every moment of it. He used every guile in his book to ruin his acting career.Though he hated being ordered around by directors, the hits followed. These all-time blockbusters, that managed to tie down Kishore to a busy acting schedule,so much so,that for a song in Shararat, Mohd.Rafi ,actually had to provide playback for him.

Kishore Kumar was an original maverick, with a protean bag of tricks for good measure. He started off in 40’S as an actor who sang his own songs , mostly in slapstick comedies. With New Delhi, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Padosan he added off-beat humour and zany songs to his repertoire, plus some yodelling and crooning. He would mimic S.D.Burman and many other artistes with quite ease. He was a complete entertainer with the qualities of an actor, singer, music director, lyricist, director, and producer.Kishoreda’s personal life was clouded by unhappiness and it was only after his fourth marriage, to Leena Chandvarkar, that he found contentment.
This is the same man who put a board outside his house calling it a "Lunatic Asylum" and referred his wives as"Bandariyas(female monkeys)".He drove his interior decorator very nearly crazy by insisting on converting his drawing room into a swimming pool, installing boats instead of sofas and hanging live crows instead of paintings.Kishore Kumar's eccentricities were probably his way of defending himself from a cruel confused world.Though laughter was his leitmotif,Kishore Kumar was buffeted on the seas of life.In private life, his search for love and acceptance, made and broke marriages. Despite his private agonies,Kishore always remained buoyant. At the pinnacle of his career, he announced his plans of retiring to his native village, Khandwa, in Madhya Pradesh.
