Chess Hurricane news:
How many scribes will argue with the fact that Vishwanathan Anand is the best sportsman ever produced by India? He has single-handedly taken the game to dizzying heights, having clashed with the temperamental Kasparov in the championship match. We now have three grandmasters in our country even though this number does not do justice to the kind of talent available in the nation.
K Sashikiran, Neelotpal Das, P Harikrishna, Sandeepan Chanda in the boys and S Vijaylakshmi, Pallavi Shah, Swati Ghate and Koneru Humpy in the girls are just some of the talented youngsters who will in all probability be vying for the grandmaster title in the future.
Koneru Humpy became the youngest qualifier to the National `A'. A creditable performance by any standard but Humpy and her father Koneru Ashok have set their sights so high that they probably expected her to triumph at the National `B', nothing less.
It actually seemed that Humpy was headed in that direction but inexperience took its toll. Anyway, it was a good lesson for Humpy and knowing her will-power, she will surely come out stronger from this experience.
Vijaylakshmi is performing very well in the men's tournaments in India. In fact, she just missed out on emulating Rohini Khadilkar in qualifying for the National `A'. It has to be seen how soon she will achieve the coveted woman grandmaster (WGM) title.

So India has a lot to look forward to.
