BHAKTAMARA DARSHAN

Jai Jinendra !

It is my great pleasure to see my dreams coming true.It was my dream and desire to create a very extensive web site on JAINISM and to start with I am giving U the Jainism's greatest MANTRA - BHAKTAMAR in english with its meanings so our young generation can know what is the strength of this great mantra.I am giving a very short story of Bhaktamar and how this great mantra was created.

Bana and Mayura were two great scholars. They made even super-human things possible by their mantric power befitting their scholarship and influenced the king very much.
Mayura pandit worshipped Sun God with the hymn composed by him known as Surya-satak and by the grace of Sun God got rid of leprosy, which he was suffering from due to the curse of his sister. The Sun God blessed Mayura when he completed sixth stanza. This made Bana envious and he took it as a challenge to make goddess bless him in six letters. He got his hands and legs chopped off and recited Candi Sataka and they grew as before, before he could utter the sixth letter. Then he returned home after circumambulating the temple. The King was very much pleased.

Then all the courtiers looked down on Jainism saying that Jains do not command such mantric powers and so all the jains should be banished from the country.

During that period Pujyasri MANATUNGA SURI was preaching Jainism
in the region. He was invitied to the King's court and was told of the challenge to prove the greatness of JINESVARA.

Sri Manatunga Suri replied, "Our Lord free from love and hatred as He is,does not perform any miracles. But the gods who attend on our Almighty will show their magical powers to the universe".

Then Acharya Sri Manatunga Suri got him self faltered in 44 iron chains
and stood behind the Jain temple. Then he composed this stotra with 44 stanza and with every new stanza the falters got cut off one by one. When the whole stotra was completed the whole temple turned and stood facing him and there was a huge heavenly echo in the whole sky saying "JAINAM JAYATI SASANAM"

Here I am going to quote U all the 44 stanza of Bhaktamar stotra with its meaning in english.

IT Means:
Oh! The mankind and all creatures are helplessly sinking into the ocean of worldly attachments.....!
Who can be the saviour, and save them from sinking?
We all are engrossed in the darkness of sins and ignorance. What can absolve them;within no time ?
While the deities with their gem-clad crowns on their heads offer their prayers and bow down, the bright and dazzling rays of gems spread all over.
what can brighten even such rays?
There is only one answer: JINA- PADA-YUGA:The lotus-like feet of Bhagavan ADINATHA.

IT means:
Shree Manatunga soorishwarjee's heart is in great decisive delight.
He say's, "I will positively compose a stavan of Lord Adideva, the first Jain Tirthankara, who existed in the beginning of this age."
There is a definite reason behind his decision. The leaders pave the way to be followed by common men.
Lord Rishabhdeva is worshipped by the Indras. These Indras have mastered the secrets of all the Shashtras. They are highly intelligent. They have worshipped him with their generous and spell binding Stotras.
Therefore only, Manatunga soorishwarjee Maharaj, with his highest perseverance, energy and confidence decides to pray Bhagwan Adideva through his extra-ordinary verse-the Bhaktamara Stotra.

3)BUDDHYA VINAPI VIBUDHARCITA-PADA PITHA!
STOTUM SAMUDYATA-MATIR-VIGATA-TRAPO'HAM.

It means:
Oh Lord! The Devas have bowed down and rubbed their heads in your pious feet and Padapeetha, in adoration.
Oh Lord! You are great. Lord, allow me to worship you. Please shower your blessings on me. You know that I have no wisdom: But in spite of that, i have decided to compose a verse of prayer on you. I have a burning desire to feel you in my physique and mind; and rightly so, I have no reservations at all. Lord! Iam your child. Iam innocent.
A lovely full moon in the sky is reflected in the lake. How cute does it seem! A child will crave - and even dare - to pick the moon up from the lake!
Many bigger and elderly people may not do so. However Iam your kid; and so not ashamed to pray you.
