About Corrosion and its impact on Metal Processing IndustriesCorrosion is the process by which metal either deteriorate or degrade or destroyed through reaction with the environment. Most of the metals corrode due to moisture , water, acids, salts and many other chemicals present in the atmosphere. For proper protection of metal parts and components, VCI plastic packing material should be used during manufacturing process as primary packaging material. It should not be combined with any other Brand or make of VCI protective material. Scrap of VCI plastics material can be reprocessed without any difficulty into commercial grade film in the same way like reprocessing of any other PE material. Meaning of the words "VCI" & "VPI""VCI" stands for "Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor". It is also described and known as"VPI" which stands for "Vapor Phase Inhibitor". However both the words VCI & VPI have same meaning and are interchangeable. Corrosion Control during Manufacturing and Work in ProcessOne of the major cause of corrosion and rust during manufacturing process and during storage of metal parts and equipments is presence of moisture and humidity. Warm and hot air has ability to hold more moisture than the cold air. Thus, when warm air cools down (specially during night time) it becomes more humid and if there is considerable drop in temperature, condensation in the form of fog will occur which will result into corrosion. Condensation of moisture in the form of fog on metal surface on the shop floor during work in process will result into rust and corrosion. Thus Moisture is Prime Cause of Corrosion of Metal Products. During work in process, corrosion and rust control measures on metal surface can be implemented by use of SRW-230, which is a revolutionary 100 % water soluble VPI / VCI concentrated liquid formulation based on the chemistry of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor and Contact Corrosion Inhibitor. SRW-230 is specially formulated VPI / VCI additive which prevents corrosion and rust on metal surfaces in both vapor and contact phases. Since SRW-230 is water soluble, moisture present in environment will also dissolve in it. Thus moisture will not be in position to cause any damage to the metal surface. It will also be effective in high humid atmosphere. SRW-230 can be applied by dipping, washing, brushing and rinsing on ferrous metal parts and components during work in process, storage and final packing to protect them from rust and corrosion.
